Paper Mario embarks on a grand adventure with a cast of unique companions.
[Story] Mario arrives in Rogue Town after receiving a letter from Princess Peach asking for his help in a treasure hunt. However, Princess Peach is nowhere to be found. Seeking clues about Princess Peach, Mario visits Professor Frankly, who studies treasure in town, and learns that the "1000-Year Door" leads to the treasure, and that seven "Star Stones" are needed to open the door. Believing that he will meet Princess Peach if he pursues the treasure, Mario, along with Christine, whom he met in town, sets out on an adventure in the paper world to find the Star Stones. It seems that Bowser is also looking for Princess Peach, not just Mario...
[The adventure takes place in a paper world full of encounters and surprises] Wherever you go, you'll encounter various events, such as giant dragons, inhabitants suddenly turning into pigs, and incidents occurring on trains. You might come across places that seem impassable, but Mario uses his paper-thin body to squeeze through narrow gaps or transform into a paper airplane to fly, using paper-only actions to forge his own path.
[Unique companions who accompany Mario on his adventures] You'll meet some slightly unusual characters wherever you go. There's Christine, who provides information about people, places, and enemies; Koopa Troopa, who excels at burrowing into shells and charging; and Cloud, who can create strong winds to blow away nearby objects. These companions become allies, assisting Mario's adventures with their diverse abilities and personalities.
[Chaotic Theater Battles] When you encounter enemies on the field, a turn-based command battle begins in a theater! Mario chooses from a variety of actions, including "attack," "item," "special move," "defend," and "appeal to the audience," depending on his strategy. Pressing buttons at the right time to coincide with an attack increases the damage dealt to the enemy, and the audience joins in to make the battle more exciting.
