It has waterproof performance (IPX8, JIS protection grade 8 equivalent) that allows continuous underwater photography for 2 hours at a depth of 14 meters. Furthermore, it is a tough model that can withstand use in harsh outdoor environments, with features such as drop impact resistance from 1.6 m*1, dust resistance equivalent to IP6X (JIS protection grade 6), cold-resistant construction that can operate even at -10 degrees Celsius, and load-bearing structure that can withstand weights up to 100 kgf (kilograms in weight).
It uses a back-illuminated CMOS image sensor that has excellent high sensitivity and low noise characteristics and can read out image signals at high speed, and a high-performance image processing engine, achieving high sensitivity performance with a maximum ISO sensitivity of 6400 and high-definition images with approximately 16 million effective pixels. Furthermore, it is equipped with an image processing function that applies "super-resolution" technology, allowing you to obtain finer images with even better resolution. It also features a "Handheld Night Scene" mode that allows you to take multiple images at once and combine them to create images with less blur even in dark locations.
Six LED auxiliary lights for short distances are placed around the lens. This enables uniform and bright illumination when using the "digital microscope" mode, which greatly magnifies the subject and allows you to observe and photograph the microscopic world that is invisible to the naked eye on the LCD monitor. The "macro lighting function" allows you to adjust the brightness of the LED auxiliary light in five levels, allowing you to take pictures with lighting that suits the subject and the intended shooting expression. It also has a variety of applied functions, including an "Instant Brightness Up" function that allows you to take pictures with faster shutter speeds to reduce camera shake and subject blur, a "Selfie Assist" function that allows you to check the position of a blinking LED to see if a detected person's face is within the frame, and an "LED Light" mode that can be used as hand illumination in dark places.
Equipped with a 2.7-inch, approximately 230,000 dot, 16:9 wide LCD monitor. By applying an AR (Anti-Reflection) coating that suppresses the reflection of external light and reduces glare, it is bright and easy to see even outdoors in strong sunlight. It also features an "outdoor monitor" function that allows you to easily adjust the brightness to the most comfortable level according to the usage environment, achieving even more comfortable visibility.
Based on live-action image data taken underwater, the camera beautifully reproduces the red tones that tend to be lost underwater, and is also equipped with "Underwater" and "Underwater Movie" modes that effectively correct for the reduction in contrast caused by the diffusion of light underwater, making it possible to take clear images even underwater. Furthermore, when in "Underwater" mode, you can select the flash photography mode "Flash off + Forced flash", allowing you to take two consecutive shots with the flash off and flash on with a single shutter release.
