Gerhard Richter Exhibition Official Catalog 2022
This art book is the official catalog for the "Gerhard Richter" exhibition, a major exhibition that surveys Richter's 60-year artistic career as he turns 90.
While skillfully manipulating a variety of media—from oil painting to photography, digital prints, and glass—between abstraction and figuration, Richter continues to explore the "principles of image formation" through which people see and perceive things, amid the complexities of society, history, individuals, and art.
This book is an innovative publication that attempts to unravel Richter's profound thoughts through a multifaceted discussion centered on keywords, a wealth of documentary photographs, international papers, interviews, and more, exploring Richter's ever-evolving artistic practice. This book features approximately 140 images, ranging from Richter's early works to his latest drawings, centered around his treasured collection, including "Birkenau" (2014), a Holocaust-themed work that marks Richter's culmination and is being shown in Japan for the first time.
