Introduction
Four self-selected best-of albums delve into the heart of this solitary virtuoso.
■ Kazuhito Yamashita, Japan's leading classical guitarist. At age 16, he became the youngest winner of the world's three major guitar competitions: Ramirez (Spain), Alessandria (Italy), and Paris (France), a record that remains unbroken. Media Reviews and More
Kazuhito Yamashita, one of Japan's leading classical guitarists, remains the youngest winner of the world's three major guitar competitions: the Ramirez International (Spain), the Alessandria International (Italy), and the Paris International (France), both of which he won at the age of 16. Yamashita released his first album on RCA in 1978 at the age of 17 and has released nearly 90 albums to date. Now, at age 60, he has personally selected recordings from his RCA career and condensed them into 4 titles and 8 CDs for this series. These 2 CDs include concerto recordings that Kazuhito Yamashita has undertaken with various orchestras, including Vivaldi and Giuliani performed with maestro Simone in Italy in 1994, the world premiere recording of Takashi Yoshimatsu's masterpiece "Pegasus Effect," written specifically for Yamashita, and Berklee's masterpiece, recorded in Paris in 1986 by staff from the Erato label.
