For small form factor enthusiasts, the standard SFX power supply form factor offers an excellent balance of size, power, and affordability. However, a standard SFX PSU with a depth of 100mm limits fan size to 80mm. While advancements in engineering and components have made today's high-end SFX PSUs quieter than ever before, there are inherent limitations to an 80mm fan's ability to dissipate heat under full load while still maintaining an acoustic profile that satisfies loudness-sensitive users. With this in mind, SilverStone has released a "stretched" variant of the SFX form factor: the SFX-L. With an additional 30mm of depth, SFX-L power supplies have enough room to fit a 120mm fan, so their maximum operating noise is not only lower in intensity (due to slower fan speeds) but also lower in pitch (due to larger fan size). The first model to debut in SFX-L is the 500W SX500-LG, featuring all the hallmarks of top-tier SFX SilverStone PSUs, including 80 PLUS Gold efficiency, modular flexible flat cables, and all Japanese-made capacitors. It also includes an ATX adapter bracket, allowing the PSU to be installed in smaller and larger cases without SFX mounting holes.
