Woody Joe 1/50 Santa Maria Wooden Model Assembly Kit
This was the largest sailing ship used on Christopher Columbus's first transatlantic voyage in 1492.
He was part of a fleet of three ships on this voyage, the other two being caravels, the Pinta and the Niña.
Both ships were secondhand and not built for the purpose of exploration.
The Santa Maria was a type of sailing ship called a nao, with a triangular forecastle at the bow, a deck, and three masts.
It successfully crossed the Atlantic and reached the Bahamas, but on December 24, 1492, during the expedition, it ran aground on Hispaniola and was dismantled, with the usable timber used for building a fortress.
