Sviatoslav Richter (March 20, 1915 - August 1, 1997), renowned as the greatest pianist of the 20th century, performed all of Chopin's works in his debut recital in Odessa in 1934. He continued to perform Chopin, along with Schubert and Liszt, among Romantic composers. Richter was strict in his repertoire selections, and even performed the entire set of Études. However, he was renowned for his deep understanding of each work.
