About the Artist
(Biography)
Five years after the September 11, 2006, terrorist attacks in New York, a music video was released online. That video, "Heavenly Star," Genki Rockets' debut work, was quickly distributed worldwide, garnering over 100,000 hits on 1up.com in just a few hours. The song also became a hot topic on YouTube.com and Myspace.com, and was nominated for Best Song at the 2006 VIDEO GAME AWARDS, sponsored by Spike TV in the United States.
On December 13, 2006, "Heavenly Star" was simultaneously released on the iTunes Store in Japan and the United States. In Japan, it was featured in the PlayStation Portable game "Lumines II," released on February 15, 2007. The vinyl version released the following day reached number one on the sales charts within a week of its release. It then sold out and became a rare item.
On December 18, the "Heavenly Star Party" was held at Mado Lounge on the 52nd floor of Roppongi Hills in Tokyo. With the Tokyo night view, said to be the best in the world, as a backdrop, the six DJs who participated in the Heavenly Star Remix played their own Heavenly Star Remix back to back. The atmosphere, enhanced by Japan's best VJ set, captivated an audience of 700.
They have also been announced as the opening act in Japan for "LIVE EARTH," a global warming Live Aid initiative initiated by Al Gore, which will be held simultaneously in seven major cities around the world on July 7, 2007.
Their YouTube video is soon approaching 250,000 hits, and the momentum shows no signs of slowing down.
