Musician / Professor Emeritus at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music / Visiting Professor at Tokyo College of Music
Born December 11, 1948, in Osaka Prefecture. As part of the group "Alice," he released numerous hits such as "Winter Lightning" and "Champion," and as a solo artist, he also released songs that could be considered Japanese standards, such as "Subaru," "A Good Day to Leave," and "Sarai."
In 2004, he became a permanent professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and within five years, he produced a slate of graduates. He is currently a professor emeritus at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and a visiting professor at the Tokyo College of Music, where he devotes himself to nurturing young people with musical aspirations.
2007: Launched the "School of the Heart" talk and live performance caravan.
2011: Aiming to open charity schools in areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, he launched the "School of the Heart - What I Want to Tell You Now" talk and live performance caravan in as many locations as possible, successfully opening charity schools in three Tohoku prefectures: Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture; Tanagura Town, Fukushima Prefecture; and Ofunato City, Iwate Prefecture.
2012: Announced the "Lullaby of the Wind Project," donating all royalties from his first collaborative song with Tatsuya Ishii, "Lullaby of the Wind - For Tomorrow's You," to a scholarship to support children orphaned by the disaster.
Celebrating his 40th year as an artist, he held a special commemorative concert at the National Theater in Tokyo to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and China. He received the 63rd Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Art Encouragement Prize.
2013: Alice restarted their career. Along with their first original album in 26 years, "ALICE XI," they embarked on the "ALICE CONCERT TOUR 2013 ~It's a Time~" tour, covering all 47 prefectures of Japan, from May 5th. On November 2nd, they successfully completed a total of 64 performances at the Nippon Budokan.
On June 29th, they held "NATURE LIVE in Izumo Taisha" to celebrate the "Heisei Great Shrine Relocation" of Izumo Taisha Shrine.
2014: On January 30th, "Shinji Tanimura's Strange Stories" was published by Magazine House, an introductory book of strange stories and lessons learned from his artistic career.
On May 31st, he sang "Subaru" on the field at the SAYONARA National Stadium FINAL Ceremony.
Since April, he has been appearing as Tsutaebito on BS Nippon Television's "Earth Theater: Songs I Want to Hear from You 100 Years From Now." He has released four singles expressing Japan's four seasons.
From December 17th to 19th, at Aoyama Theater in Tokyo, where he has held recitals for 18 consecutive years since its opening in 1986, he is making a limited comeback for the first time in 10 years, titled "CURTAIN CALL," in response to passionate requests.
