The Reimei-class is the Japan Coast Guard's largest patrol vessel, having entered service as a single-helicopter patrol vessel, an improved version of the previous Akitsushima-class.
Constructed as part of efforts to strengthen territorial waters security, this class is capable of long-term operations over vast ocean areas.
The first ship, the Reimei, was commissioned in February 2020 and belongs to the Kagoshima Coast Guard.
