"Our live performances were at their best in Hamburg," said John Lennon.
The rugged beat, John and Paul's seemingly competitive choruses, George's challenging Gretsch guitar, and newcomer Ringo's powerful drum rolls.
Just pure passion! ...This is "everything rock 'n' roll"!
The Beatles' final pub show, shortly after their debut, in December 1962!
Four days at the "Star Club" during their tour of Hamburg, Germany!
A bustling club at the end of the year, the floor overflowing with drunks, squeals of delight echoing through the air.
Following the success of "Love Me Do," The Beatles even provided backup for the host.
New songs included "I Saw Her Standing There" and "Ask Me Why."
And they passionately performed a number of classic rock & roll covers.
Recent research has shown that this recording was recorded onto four reels by the club manager over four days (December 21st, 25th, 28th, and 31st).
Numerous titles have been released in the past, both major and minor, and there have even been official releases of around 30 tracks billed as "complete versions."
However, due to rights issues, the tracklist differs between the UK, US, and Japan, and excessive editing has swapped out not only the MC positions but also the order of the songs, resulting in releases that are similar but not identical to the original recordings on tape.
"Hully Gully" was even credited to The Beatles, despite being performed by The Rebel Rousers. The release itself was invalidated, and Apple sued, resulting in the Star Club recordings being sealed and left in a warehouse.
While the sound quality of the home tape recorder is certainly not great, it nonetheless captures The Beatles as the world's greatest pub band.
This time, the recordings have been thoroughly compiled from trusted masters.
They have been remastered to preserve as much of the original recording quality and sound as possible, while also providing easy listening.
This release features a total of 37 tracks, significantly surpassing the previously released 30 Beatles tracks.
To further capture the atmosphere of a live performance in a crowded club on New Year's Eve and into the New Year, bonus tracks from the opening act, The Dominoes, and the infamous Rebel Rousers have also been included.
The Beatles had already made their debut and were on the path to stardom.
However, manager Brian Epstein ordered the Beatles to fulfill a contract they had signed to perform at the Star Club before they became famous.
And so it happened in 1962...The Beatles' final tour of Hamburg.
And so this miraculous tape was preserved.
