The Y31 Cedric/Gloria, launched in 1987, featured a significant change in styling, incorporating more curves and modern styling than its predecessor. In addition to the existing Brougham grade, a new Gran Turismo model was added, featuring improved sporty performance. Its debut targeted a younger, more active demographic, replacing the existing conservative demographic.
A 1989 minor change saw major changes to the exterior, including revised rear combination lamps, an increase in maximum output from 185hp to 210hp thanks to the addition of an intercooler and a shift to higher-octane fuel for the VG20DET engine, and the adoption of the world's first 5-speed automatic transmission.
The later-model Cedric made its debut. The Gran Turismo Black SV, released in 1990, commemorated the 30th anniversary of the Cedric.
With a body color different from the standard model and fin-shaped wheels, similar to those used on the Cima, further emphasized its exclusivity.
Enjoy the iconic specifications of the later-model Y31, which heralded the dawn of a new era.
