It has 1/4-inch and 3/8-inch screw holes on the bottom for direct lens attachment to a tripod. It also has a built-in strap hole for portability.

The ring provides stability to the camera and lens. Due to its weight, when the lens is mounted on a tripod, the center of gravity shifts to the lens. The ring attaches to the tripod and can be shifted to adjust the balance.
Rotation
By attaching the ring around the lens and securing the camera, you can rotate the lens between landscape and portrait modes without removing the camera from the tripod. The friction thumb screw can be tightened to lock the camera in the desired position.
