・Because each individual thread is dyed, it becomes softer with use and develops a unique texture. [Wafuuka]'s tenugui are dyed using shibori, a traditional Japanese dyeing technique. Shibori involves pouring dye onto plain fabric to create beautiful patterns. Because each thread is dyed individually, unlike printing where pigment is applied to the surface of the fabric, the fabric’s breathability and elasticity are not compromised. This results in the unique feel of a tenugui – highly absorbent, quick-drying, and becoming softer with each use. Furthermore, tenugui dyed with shibori have a unique texture with subtle color bleeding and delicate, gentle blurring, characteristics of handcraftsmanship. With each use, a small amount of dye will fall from the threads, creating a deeper, richer texture over time.
