Synopsis
Since her debut in 2001 as the first Japanese female singer on the prestigious jazz label Verve, akiko has consistently remained a unique presence in the Japanese jazz scene. This inspired album was produced in response to the worldview of the film *Adabana* (directed by Sayaka Kai, starring Arata Iura, Kiko Mizuhara, and others, released nationwide on October 18, 2024), for which she served as music director.
[Synopsis]
Inspired by this film, which explores profound themes of life and existence, this album includes nine tracks in total, including a song featuring original English lyrics set to "Pavane for a Dead Princess" (also used in the film), a poetry reading, cover versions of the popular jazz standard "Yesterdays" and the 70s classic "Both Sides Now," and newly written songs that resonate with the album's overall theme.
The cast of "Adabana," including Kiko Mizuhara, Touko Miura, and Masako Koda, participate in a poetry reading.
The poetry reading, co-created by director Sayaka Kai and akiko, beautifully reflects the film's worldview.
Participating musicians include Bugge Wesseltoft, a Norwegian jazz prodigy who has been close friends with akiko since 2009; Masayoshi Fujita, a vibraphone/marimba player active both domestically and internationally; Jun Miyagawa, an organist active in his own projects as well as supporting bands such as Kenshi Yonezu, KING GNU, and MILEMIUM PARADE; and Masaki Hayashi, a pianist/composer who, in addition to his own work, supports artists such as Sadao Watanabe, Lisa Ono, and Ringo Shiina, and also composes music for films and stage productions.
The booklet, including the jacket, features photographs taken by Masatoshi Nagase, who is also a cast member of the film.
