New Sensor (NS), the US company behind the SOVTEK and Electro-Harmonix brands, has reissued the TUNG-SOL vacuum tube.
The 5881, introduced by TUNG-SOL in 1954, had such a profound impact on audio equipment and guitar amplifiers that it can be said to have sparked the rise of Hi-Fi at the time. The original TUNG-SOL 5881 has become one of the most iconic tubes of the 1950s.
NS plans, designs, and manufactures TUNG-SOL brand vacuum tubes to be faithful to tight inputs, highly reliable, and warm across the entire output range.
TUNG-SOL vacuum tubes available here undergo extensive aging in an automated sorting machine in Japan, undergo high-precision characteristic testing, and are assigned a 13-digit serial number (the serial number is affixed to the box). After testing, they are matched and shipped. The error between pairs measured by NS often varies by several tens of percent, even when tested under the same measurement conditions. However, this high-precision selection method keeps pair error to within 5% (depending on measurement conditions).
