Kamoshika Tool Shop's pottery is made using Banko ware, a traditional craft from Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture, and is crafted from clay containing a high amount of petalite (leaf feldspar), which is excellent in heat resistance and durability. In particular, the clay used in this rice pot has been specially blended by the manufacturer to maximize its properties by adjusting the amount of petalite. It is designed to prevent deterioration and damage such as cracking that often occurs with continued use. Furthermore, by blending petalite into the glaze, this rice pot can withstand direct heat (even dry heating).

●Since each product is handmade, there may be slight variations in shape, color, and texture. Also, the lid may be a little loose, but this does not affect its use. ● As you use it, fine cracks will appear on the surface. This is a characteristic of pottery called crazing. The color of the clay will show through the cracks, so it will be especially noticeable on white pottery. ● When heated, the bottom of the outside will burn and turn black, changing its appearance from when you bought it to after use. This is also a characteristic of pottery.
[Caution] We recommend sealing the pot before using it. Sealing is a maintenance process performed to prevent cracking in unused earthenware pots, reduce odor transfer, and keep them durable for a long time. [How to seal the pot] Fill the pot about 80% full with the water from washing about 2 cups of rice (or a mixture of potato starch or wheat flour, etc.) and bring it to a boil. After boiling, let it cool, discard the water, wash it thoroughly, and dry it.
